Mtn. Slopestyle…..Go Pro takes over the Vail Mtn. Games

This summer Go Pro took over the Vail Mtn. Games and the result was an unbelievable show of skill, excitement, and adrenaline as well as some serious bumps and bruises. The event fell a week after the Outlaws of Dirt comp in Lyons, Colorado and many riders had their tricks dialed in. It was a very full day with wind, rain, dust and sun.

A highlight of the slopestyle contest had to be the “Open Loop”, with its high-risk-high-reward, the loop was a question mark for the competitors and judges alike.  A few brave souls attempted the daunting feature through practice rounds and qualifying and even fewer used the feature in their final rounds. Others opted to get creative with lines and some huge, crowd pleasing, transfers were put down.

Riders and fans all seemed pleased with the course and layout and, with the introduction of the “loop”, the bar was definitely raised. Now it’s only a matter of time before these guys begin to “trick” it!

2013 Winter Mountain Games…..Vail puts on a winter action-packed show.

The Vail Valley FoundationVail Resorts, Eddie Bauer and Go-Pro got together and created a fantastic opportunity for winter snow-sport athletes and more to show their stuff at the 2013 Winter Mountain Games. The event was held February 8th-10th and featured ice climbing, ski mountaineering, and some testy snow-cycling events. Demos and a gear village were highlighted by incredible competition all weekend.

Saturday’s events were all about big air as both telemark skiers and mountain bikers took to the huge jumps on Golden peak. Practice was held in the afternoon and under ever-changing weather the athletes prepared for their main event, to be held under the lights. The stage was set for a fantastic show and just to add a little more spice to the competition the organizers added fire!

The riders dazzled, the fans cheered and the competition heated up. Garrett Robertson took top honors in the bike best trick with his ultra-slow front flip, dubbed “The lawn dart”. He shared the top step of the podium with telemark champion, Andreas Sjoebeck. Everyone turned out to be winners Saturday night and were rewarded by a heart pounding concert by John Brown’s Body.

Thanks to Plus Size BMX for rounding up some great competitors. More images from the big air may be seen here.
