Denver favorite Little Man Ice Cream hosted its 4th annual Hula Hoop contest this past weekend. This year’s event brought out a huge crowd as local schools were encouraged to compete for prizes and bragging rights in a fantastic bunch of catagories. The hoopers put on a great show of skills and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. Thanks to the Denver Firefighters for coming out and cooling off all of the hot kids…and anyone else who happened to be anywhere near the spray of the fire truck!
Little Man Ice Cream, Hoopa, The Stasko Agency and about a hundred eager competitors created quite an event in Denver’s Lower Highlands on a hot July afternoon. “Hoop for a Scoop”, the third annual hula hoop competition, pitted young and old with wiggly hips and colorful hoops in a contest for the ages. Proceeds from the event benefitted The GrowHaus, a non-profit urban farm, marketplace and education center.
Competitors showed their best moves and fanciest costumes to impress judges and win not only life-time fame but also fantastic prizes, which included tickets to Phish, a year’s worth of Little Man ice cream and passes to Waterworld. The day was hot but the competition was hotter. The only relief came from the breeze generated form the hundreds of spinning hoops.
