Jockeys, Juleps & Jazz…..MyLifeLine.org throws a Derby Bash at Four Seasons, Denver

Once again, I have had the opportunity to put my photo skills to use to back an unbelievable cause and have a good time doing it. MyLifeLine.org hosted a Derby Bash in Denver that would rival even the party at Churchill Downs. The event was an opportunity to dress to the nines, down some delicious Juleps and to support an organization that is more than worthy. MyLifeLine.org creates free websites for people suffering from cancer and has a very straightforward directive.

“Our mission is to empower patients to build an online support community of family and friends to foster connection, inspiration, and healing.” -MyLifeLine.org

The event was held at the fabulous Four Seasons, Denver and went off without a hitch due to the efforts of an amazing volunteer planning committee directed by Sheri Muilenburg of The Avia Group and her co-chair Diedre Wooden.

Please visit the MyLifeLine.org website to learn more about what Founder, Marcia Donzinger and her dedicated crew are doing to help make a trying time more bearable for everyone effected.

Vine Street Pub turns 4…..a party on 4/20

Vine Street Pub in Denver celebrated its fourth anniversary by throwing a blow-out party on 4/20. Sunshine, lawn games, barbeque, and of course beer made for a fantastic afternoon for the large crowd. A great band, By All Means, rocked the house with super sounds and limitless energy until the sun set.

A fine selection of hand-crafted brews flowed with all proceeds benefiting Judi’s House, a non-profit that provides “hope and healing for grieving children”.

What’s Hoopa?…..It’s fun.

We recently had the opportunity to try a fun new way to get strong and in shape that is definitely not your average fitness class. Our friend Michele has a way to make increasing your core strength fun and exciting. Hula hooping!!! Yes, that’s right, the childhood toy that you either played with or saw others play, depending on your interests and skill-set, is a very creative and enjoyable way to fitness and body stability.

The class lasted for about an hour, including giggling, and included a warm up, instruction,  exercises and a cool-down. As with every form of fitness training, Hula-hooping focuses on correct form and execution of skills to ensure not only safety but the best benefits. We were a very mixed bag of participants, from beginners to those who looked like pros. We all found that, in order to reap the best benefits, we could all work on our hooping techniques. There were challenges galore including keeping the hoop off of the ground, balance, jumping and even the limbo.

Michele’s class, called Hoopa, is a great way to gain strength and stability in the “o-so-important” core and its fun.

Preschool Art Show…..Auraria Early Learning Center does it again.

Recently we had the opportunity to attend the Auraria Early Learning Center’s Student Art Show. What a blast! There were cookies, drinks, music and more great art then could be imagined. Table upon table of fascinating creations from the very talented students who attend the school. The art show is just another of the amazing opportunities the children receive while attending these great programs.

12 Dime Design…..a goldmine of fine home finishes

I started 12 Dime Design about 8 years ago with my father and am proud to say that we are still at it through good times and bad. 12 Dime Design operates along the Colorado front range, Colorado’s mountain resort towns and just about anywhere custom homes are being built. Working with architects, custom builders and homeowners, 12 Dime Design provides only quality materials and offers exceptional customer service.

12 Dime Design is the culmination of years of seeking out and working with unique home finishes. The name “12 Dime” comes from a historic mining claim that we have in the hills above Boulder. These mines often proved to yield all sorts of riches. We feel that through our offerings and design services there are still some “treasures” to be found in the 12 Dime Lode.

Working with select manufacturers of building products like Vintage Woods, The Woods Company and Pioneer Millworks, 12 Dime Design has found partners that share similar philosophies….provide quality unique products and do what you say you are going to do.

Edge Restaurant & Bar…..Four Seasons Hotel, Denver

I was recently asked to photograph the staff of Edge Restaurant & Bar in the Four Seasons Hotel, Denver for their 2011 Holiday Card. The main shot was to take place in “The Chef’s Table private dining room”. This dining room is one of three private dining rooms in Edge and features a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass bringing the action of the kitchen to the dining table.

When I arrived the staff was putting the finishing touches on an overflowing table of vegetables, cheeses, fish and meats. It was literally a potpourri of ingredients for all desires of fine dining, including two live lobsters! The colors and shapes made for a wonderfully brilliant foreground. For a background element, another member of the kitchen staff tirelessly pored very flammable liquid on the kitchen’s custom grill creating awesome flames.

The shoot turned out to be loads of fun with a very animated crew of Chefs and Front of the House Managers. They are definitely a fun team that are not only extremely skilled at what they do but also know how to have a bit of fun.

Edge Restaurant & Bar is a Denver dining experience not to be missed. Everything on the menu, from soups to salads, seafood to Colorado ranched steaks, are second to none. The staff is professional, courteous and accommodating. The 21 day dry aged Buffalo Rib Eye with Chimichurri Sauce is a must try!
